Burundi and Euclid University
In 2010, Burundi approved the EUCLID instrument of participation through the signature of H.E. Augustin NSANZE, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
EUCLID (Pôle Universitaire Euclide | Euclid University) is an intergovernmental organization with a university charter, established in 2008 and representing a significant institutional effort on the part of the several African countries, including Burundi. Thanks to
a important work of New York based coordination by the Permanent Missions of the EUCLID Participating States in 2010, the EUCLID constitutive agreements were registered and published in the United Nations Treaty Series in December 2011.
In April 2012, Ambassador Herménégilde Niyonzima participated at a EUCLID graduation ceremony held in New York at the Permanent Mission of the Central African Republic by H.E. Prime Minister Faustin Archange Touadéra, also in the presence of his colleague the second EUCLID High Steward, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Toihiri of the Comoros (photo below).
In 2012, H.E Ambassador Herménégilde Niyonzima assumed the function of Institutional High Steward of this institution and participated in the High Level Delegation official visit to the Gambia, which resulted in the finalization of an important headquarters agreement for EUCLID with both diplomatic and university status in the country (below).
In September 2013, Ambassador Niyonzima was delighted to greet Dr Mamadou Tangara (3rd from left above), previously Minister of Higher Education of Gambia whom he had recently met in Banjul, as his colleague in New York as newly appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Gambia to the United Nations.
The Ambassador is committed to sustainable development and peace through higher education, and looks forward to the continued development of this impressive intergovernmental organization which currently serves 11 Participating States under international law.
